President Guy C. called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM at VFW Post 4809 Norfolk, VA. There were 50 members present and two guests. The guests were Don I. and Joseph E. President's Remarks: Well done to Charles G. for his article in the newsletter. Very Positive statements were made from the floor and the membership is looking forward to additional articles in the same vein. Guy stated that articles of interest on any aspect of numismatics are solicited from the membership and will be printed in upcoming editions of the newsletter. Reports: The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm. Everything appears to be on course for the February show. Dealers are submitting their contracts slowly as is usual but Malcolm and the Show Committee expect the show to be successful. The dates for our upcoming are February 15th and 16th, 2003. The Secretary's report was read and approved. Old Business: Vice President Sheryl W. explained the policy on how TICs were going to be used and awarded. She handed out copies of the rules that would govern the issuance of the TICs. She and Doug B. are to be commended for their work in organizing the program. New Business: There was nothing introduced under New Business. Show and Tell: Charles G. spoke on the last set of the proof platinum eagles to be issued with the old designs. The 2003 platinum coins will be issued with new designs on them. Bill H. spoke on unsolicited mailings offering coins. He spoke of the new format of the ANA's magazine "The Numismatist." He made available stack's latest Auction Catalog for the auction ending on January 15, 2003. Dave C. spoke on completion of his defined banknote collection from the Richmond Federal Reserve. Gene F. spoke on the medical problems that were occurring in Europe associated with the bimetallic composition of the new Euro coins. Exhibits: None Door Prize Winners: Bill J., Lynn B., Bob S. Coin Game: The subject was the Trade Dollar, no one brought an example. Education Program: Bill J. spoke on the United States Silver Dollar. His talk was accompanied by a handout with pictures of the various types of U.S. Dollars minted for use in commerce. He also touched on the recent minting of Commemorative Silver Dollars. He then took questions from the floor. It was and interesting talk on the largest of the U.S. Silver Coins. Junior Question: The question for our junior members stumped all but our perennial junior member John R. 50/50 Winner: Bill J. Raffle Winners: Ike D., Everett P., Lynn B., Michael, G. (2), Nadine M., Joseph E., and Denny M. We continue on track with another double winner this month. That makes two months in a row that we have had at least one double winner.) Auction: The auction contained a full 50 lots with an extra club lot thrown in for good measure. Items for the Betterment of the Club: The club thanked the Christmas Party Committee for their hard work in bringing off another successful event. Next Meeting Items: February's meeting will be a Past President's night. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM. |
