| President Guy Clark called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM at VFW Post
4809 Norfolk, VA.
There were 44 members and three guests present. The guests were Mike S., Bob M., and Howard C. President's Remarks: Guy announced the passing of long time member Bill J. He expressed the clubs condolences to Bill's family. He reminded the membership of our upcoming February show. Reports: The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm. Everything is going smoothly and we have approximately 45 tables sold. It looks as if this will be a good show. All advertisements have been sent out. Cards have mailed. Guy will be on the radio WNIS on Friday at 7:30 AM. The Secretary's report was read and approved. Old Business: Extra Show flyers and cards are available for distribution to businesses, work centers and friends. Your help is solicited in advertising our show. If you haven't paid your dues for this year, see Paul and get current with your obligation to the club. Our annual dues are a major source of revenue for the club. New Business: There was nothing introduced under New Business. Show and Tell: Chuck F. brought an example of the silver USS Enterprise commissioning medal. Bob H. had some examples of the 2003 Kennedy Half Dollar that he had purchased from the Mint. He commented on their very poor condition, out of two complete rolls none qualified as MS-60. Bill H. brought examples of the 2003 silver Eagle and the 2003 China 10 Yuan Panda. He also brought a Harry Potter coin for one of our members. Exhibits: None Door Prize Winners: Sheryl W., Redy K., August R. Coin Game: The subject was the rodent on a North American coin. The actual coin was the Canadian nickel of 1967 which depicts a jackrabbit. The winner was George S. Education Program: Vice President Sheryl was the Mistress of Ceremony for our past presidents night. She hit on the highlights during the tenures of each of the club's presidents. Her comments brought out interesting milestones in the club's development, interesting facts concerning the club, and amusing anecdotes about some of our past presidents. Two of our past presidents, Denny M. and Sam F., spoke of their time in office. Bill J., Chuck F., and Gene F., all former past presidents, were also in the audience. It was and interesting night of nostalgia for many members. Well done Sheryl. Junior Question: The question for our junior members concerned Proof Coins and we had two winners, Jason I. and Joshua B. The program's sponsor, Jack L., had prizes for both. 50/50 Winner: Paul A. Long Term Raffle Winner: Gene F. Raffle Winners: Guy C., Micki C., Paul A., Shawn A., Chuck F., Bill J., Glenn N. III, and Gene F. (No double winners this month.) Auction: The auction was lively and there was spirited bidding on some lots. Remember submit your auction lots to Sheryl and earn TICs. Items for the Betterment of the Club: None Next Meeting Items: The coin game for next month will be on the United States quarter minted between 1804 and 2003. The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM. |
