| President Guy C. called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM at VFW Post
4809 Norfolk, VA.
There were 43 members and five guests present. The guests were Mike S., Glenn N. III, Art H., Jerry B., and Don I. President's Remarks: Guy explained the new meeting room set-up and asked for comments. Reports: The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm assisted by Guy. It was a very nice show. 99% of the comments received were positive. Our next three shows have been booked; our fall show will be on Columbus Day weekend October 11-12, 2003; next spring's show has been scheduled for February 14-15, 2004; and the dates October 9-10, 2004 have been scheduled for 2004's fall show. The Secretary's report was read and approved. Old Business: Paul indicated that we may have to suspend six (6) members for non-payment of dues. New Business: Malcolm presented Silver Eagles dated 2003 to those members who had an exhibit at our recent show. They were: Show and Tell: Mark W. brought in a Nuremberg Thaler which was the plate coin from one of Dr. Davenport's books on Thalers. Chuck F. displayed his Naval Nuclear Task Force One Medal depicting the USS Enterprise, USS Long Beach, and USS Bainbridge. Norm F. showed his Canadian Silver/Gold coin commemorating the Tulip Festival and spoke of its origins from the WWII period. Exhibits: None Door Prize Winners: Norm F., Chuck F., Bill J. Coin Game: The subject was U.S. Quarter Dollars 1804 - 2003. The chosen coin was the capped bust quarter and the winner was Everett P. Education Program: Gene F. gave an enlightening and interesting talk on numismatic literature. He spoke of its availability and cost. He stated that numismatic literature is a collectible in its own right. He mentioned several dealers who deal exclusively in numismatic publications. Well versed in his topic Gene made us aware of the variety and magnitude of the numismatic information that is available from widely diverse venues. Junior Question: The question for our junior members concerned "Matte" Proof Coins and Jason I. was the winner. The program's sponsor, Jack L., as usual, had a prize for the winner. 50/50 Winner: Ryan N. Raffle Winners: Shawn A., Don I. (2), Ray K., Ryan N., Mike S., Everett P., and Norm F. (With our double winner this month we are back on the track of having double winners after a one month hiatus.) Auction: The auction was lively and the bidding was intense for a few of the lots. Items for the Betterment of the Club: None Next Meeting Items: The coin game for next month will be on the United States nickels minted from 1866 through 2003. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM. |
