Minutes of the June 2003 meeting

President Guy C. called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM at VFW Post 4809 Norfolk, VA.

There were 48 members and eight guests present.  The guests were Larry P., Larry P. Jr, Alyce H., Mildred H., Gary H., Don B., Tom A. and his son.

President's Remarks:  None

Reports:
    Ray I. presented the Treasurer's report; it was accepted as read.

    The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm, everything continues on track.

    The Secretary's report was read and approved.

Old Business:  Dave C. and Charles G. gave the membership more information (travel provisions, dates and directions) on the Richmond Coin club's trip to the ANA Convention this summer in Baltimore.  The bus (47 seats) is only half full and the point of contact is Perry B.

New Business:  Bob H. brought equipment to the meeting allowing him to make a presentation of the new TCC website to the club members.  The site is, as of this month, up and running.  The website address is: www.tidewatercoinclub.org.

Show and Tell:  Dave Cline brought in an error note.  Garland Taylor brought in a Sand Dollar (Look but don't Touch).  Bob H. and Charles G. also brought in items to share.

Exhibits:  Sheryl W. displayed her collection of Bronze Medals.  The medals displayed covered various topics.  (Space travel, the Olympics, wars, etc.).

Door Prize Winners:  Don C., John C., Zora S.

Coin Game:  The subject was a U.S. coin that features an eagle in flight.  The coin chosen was the Standing Liberty Quarter and the winner was John K.

Education Program:  Charles Grose gave a presentation on slabbed coins.  The talk drew spirited debate and discussion from the audience.  Good job Charlie.

Junior Question:  The question for our junior members required them to explain the difference between the 1960 small date and large date Lincoln cent.  New club member Larry P. Jr. was the winner and received a prize from Jack L., the program's sponsor.

50/50 Winner:  Nadine M.

Raffle Winners:  Nadine M., Zora S., Tom C., Ed E. (double winner) Alyce H. (new member) and Don B. (visitor)

Long-Term Raffle Winner:  Norm F.

Auction:  The auction contained a full 50 lots with spirited bidding on a few lots there were also a few bargains to be had.

Items for the Betterment of the Club:  None
