Minutes of the July 2003 meeting

President Guy C. called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM at VFW Post 4809 Norfolk, VA.

There were 43 members and six guests present.  The guests were Ryan N., Mike B., Howard C., Mildred H., Chris W. and Art H.

President's Remarks:  None

Reports:
    Ray I. presented the Treasurer's report; it was accepted as read.

    The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm, everything continues on track.  He expects to have the raffle tickets available at the next meeting.

    The Secretary's report for the May meeting was read and approved.  June's minutes will be read at the next meeting.

Old Business:  Sheryl provided a summation of the current TIC leaders.  She also provided a review of the TIC Program for new members who were unfamiliar with the program.

New Business:  Charles G. provided information on the upcoming ANA Show.  Additional information is available at www.money.org which is the ANA website.  It can also be accessed through our website www.tidewatercoinclub.org.

Show and Tell:
    Bob K. related the story behind a token with the initials "A.F." and tied it in with the individual's position with the Singer Sewing Machine Co.

    Charles G. brought in rolls of Alabama "D" mint quarters for any members who would be interested in purchasing them. President Guy C. bought the last three rolls.

    Chuck F. displayed his set of Franklin Mint Silver Bicentennial Medals the first 100 years.

    Sean A. shared with us some recently acquired Confederate notes.

    John R. had a limited supply of Maine "P" quarters available to the members at face value.

Exhibits:  None

Door Prize Winners:  Tom A., John C., Travis V.

Coin Game:  The subject was a U.S. coin that features five stars on one side and six stars on the other.  Norm F. was the winner and he provided some facts on his 1899 Barber half dollar.

Education Program:  Our Education coordinator Fran R. provided a very interesting numismatic quiz.  It was comprised of 25 questions with the answers provided you just had to match the right answers with their corresponding questions or statements.  It was an enjoyable as well as entertaining endeavor.  Good work Fran.

Junior Question:  The question had to do with explaining the differences between the Type I and Type II Buffalo Nickels.  We had 6 junior members present and they all answered the question correctly.  This is the first time that we had six junior members present and all participating in the question.  It left the program's sponsor Jack short of prizes but he assures us that lapse will be rectified.  Good work juniors!!!

50/50 Winner:  Robert M.

Raffle Winners:  Glenn N., Denny M., Brian B., Tom C., Michael ., Bob K. and Steve E., a double winner.

Auction:  The auction contained a full 50 lots with strong prices for some lots but as usual there were a few bargains to be had.

Items for the Betterment of the Club:  None

Next Meeting Items:  The coin for the coin game will be the U.S. cent struck between 1800 and 2003.

The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM.
