| President Guy C. called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM at VFW Post
4809 Norfolk, VA.
There were 51 members present. President's Remarks: None Reports: The Bourse Chairman's report was given orally by Malcolm and everything appears to be on track. The Secretary's report was read and approved. Old Business: Fran R. made a report on the proposed T-shirts. Their approximate cost will be $30.00 each. The membership decided to continue this item with inputs solicited from the members. New Business: A request was made to have a member volunteer to fill in for George S. for the November meeting. Show and Tell: Alice H. displayed a gold ¼ Krugerrand that was salvaged from the debris of the Twin Towers terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. Exhibits: Charles G. displayed an assortment of PCGS, NGC, and ANACS Certified Coins which he used in conjunction with this evenings education program, Door Prize Winners: August R., Jesse A., Chuck F., Denny M. Coin Game: The subject was the 1999-D Delaware Quarter. The winner was John K. who provided some interesting facts on this the first of our state quarters. Education Program: President Guy C., ably assisted by Charles G., presented our educational program this evening. The subject was grading both certified and raw coins. There were many questions from the floor which were enthusiastically fielded by Guy and Charles. It was a learning experience for all of us. There was something for all to be gained from this discussion whether you are a novice collector or one with many years of experience. Well done to Guy and Charles. Junior Question: The question concerned the first copper coin to have the "S" mint mark. Our three juniors present all had the correct answer which was the 1908-S Indian Head. They were awarded a prize from Jack L., the program's sponsor. 50/50 Winner: Shawn A. Raffle Winners: Paul A., Brian B. (2), Mike S., Norm F., Jesse A., Bob K. and Chuck F. Auction: The auction was lively in spots with most lots being sold. Remember each member may submit up to five lots per auction. Turn in your auction lots to Sheryl and she will be sure to include them in the next month's auction. Sheryl only requires the auction list not the actual items. Items for the Betterment of the Club: Paul A. made the club aware of Glenn N's recent fall. He fractured his weak leg in a number of places. His recovery will be on the order of three months or more and will include intense therapy. A card is being handed around for all members to sign. Next Meeting Items: The coin for the coin game will be a world coin. The theme will be a Viking from a country that borders the Atlantic Ocean or the North Sea. The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM. |
