January is our annual Silver Dollar Night.  This year's program will be presented by Chuck F.  Chris M. will present the February program, an overview of coins over the ages. March is open. See Fran R. if you have a program to present.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS DUE IN JANUARY. The dues for membership have not changed in several years; still a bargain at $12/adult and $3/youth under 18 yrs. LIFE MEMBERSHIP is $100. Members not required to pay are new members that joined late in the year (see printed newsletter for names), Life Members (12), and Honorary Life Members (5). Paul A. will be taking membership dues at the meeting. Make checks payable to Tidewater Coin Club, Inc. If you pay by mail, send the check to Tidewater Coin Club, Inc., PO Box 5247, Virginia Beach, VA 23471-5247.

Young Numismatist Quiz: Animals have appeared on coinage of virtually every country, including the US. From a hippopotamus (Gambia) to an emu (Australia), animals have played an important part in the artistry of numismatics. The US has depicted numerous animals within its numismatic history. One such animal, a beaver, appeared on a fifty-cent piece. What was this coin? Tell about its history, mintage and designer.

Polo shirts will be available in February.

Congratulations to Jerry B. for winning the 1970-S small date Lincoln Cent in MS-65 condition. February's raffle will be a British Proof Set. April's raffle will be an ancient silver coin of the Roman Empire. The long-term raffle is for club members and any number of chances may be purchased.  See Chris M. at the meeting to record your $1.00/chance donation.

Club members are welcome to attend the monthly Board meeting.   The next meeting will be Monday, January 31, at 7:30 PM.  (See paper newsletter for details and directions.)
